Meanwhile, back at the movies...

Finally got to see Shriek 2 today. Wasn't sure if the Shrieking was due to the movie or the toddlers in the audience, or the sight of the ticket price. Basic plot line: Shriek and Princess Fiona tackle the horror movie industry in a scathing parody of every horror ever told in a fairy tale. I admit I really loved Pass-out-in-Boots. A great cautionary tale on the dangers of catnip, that one. Of course, Eddie Murphy was his usual assinine self. Spoiler warning: the scene where Princess Fiona turns out to be a deadly FemBot was worth the price of admission, though it was probably just as well that there were been a couple of large ear-wax candles rendered in strategic locations on set.

In 1995, Tom Lehrer said:
"I can just pick up the paper and get ten topics, but how do you write a song about it? It's easier to be funny when you're not bitter and angry; If I were to write a song about Newt Gingrich, I can't imagine [it] being funny."
I haven't been feeling very funny myself, lately.

Meanwhile, at the movies...

Heard there was this great movie starring Brad Pitt out this weekend, so I went to go see it. Didn't realize it starred Marina Sirtis as well, reprising her role as an empathic star ship counsellor with mild telepathic powers. Also didn't realized it had an NC-17 rating, though I suppose I should've, what with all the talk about how Pitt's character Achilles was hiding inside a trojan as big as a horse, and laying seige to Troi...
